About Heritage Christian Academy

HCA is an inter-denominational Pre-K through 12th-grade Christian school. At Heritage, they believe the best foundation they can offer is one deeply rooted in Christ. All of the teachers are committed to ensuring that every subject is taught firmly on the truth of Christianity, which provides your student with rich opportunities to explore how their faith can have an impact on every area of their life.

Heritage Christian Academy (HCA) is an independent, interdenominational Christian school serving preschool through twelfth-grade students founded in 1970 by three local churches in Fort Collins.

Founded in 1970 by three local churches in Fort Collins, Heritage Christian School (HCS) opened its doors at First Baptist Church (First Baptist) to 56 elementary students initially employing one administrator and four teachers. In 1973 HCS added a secondary program and graduated its first student. From these humble beginnings, the Fort Collins’ community has witnessed God’s provision as the school continues to vibrantly prepare students to lead Christ-like lives through a Biblical approach to education.

In 2006, the United States economy was at its peak in terms of economic growth causing commercial real estate to escalate in market price, payments, and financing interest rates. Unfortunately, after three years, HCS was unable to make the increased monthly payment, and the finance company was unwilling to renegotiate the terms of the contract. At that point, the HCS Board of Directors reluctantly but prudently voted not to issue teacher contracts or make plans for the 2007-2008 academic year due to the resulting uncertainty.

A group of HCS parents joined forces determined to continue the legacy of the school within the community.

They formed a foundation, Friends of Christian Education Foundation (since renamed Heritage Christian Foundation), to reincorporate the school as Heritage Christian Academy (HCA).

The foundation purchased a property for the future of the school.

The foundation discovered a low-occupancy manufacturing building in northeast Fort Collins which would meet the current physical needs of the school as well as provide an opportunity for future construction growth. The foundation was eventually able to agree on a purchase price and secured financing. Contracts were offered to three administrators in early summer, and planning for the upcoming academic year began (2007-2008).

A continued future for the school.

Over the next year, facility remodeling continued with a special emphasis on construction in the gymnasium area. In February of 2009, the HCA Basketball Program was able to play its games in our newly constructed gymnasium. The school continued to develop the facility and grow its academic and athletic programs. In February 2020, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary with a gala attended by past and present members of the Heritage community.
